John Snow, Inc
John Snow, Inc. (JSI) is a privately held global consulting firm that works to improve health, education, and economic equity for people around the world. Based in Boston, it was founded in 1978 by Joel Lamstein and Norbert Hirschhorn. In 2022, Margaret Crotty became CEO and president, taking over from the founder.
JSI has led and supported many important projects. It managed the Supply Chain Management System (SCMS), funded by the U.S. government’s PEPFAR program, to deliver essential HIV medicines to people in need. Lamstein also contributed to public dialogue with a Huffington Post blog in 2010 about U.S. leadership, reproductive health, and the care of refugees and displaced people.
The firm has conducted research on hospital infections in Massachusetts, published in 2008, and co-authored work on using computer modeling for emergency preparedness. In Connecticut, JSI helped develop a statewide plan to modernize electronic medical records for doctors and hospitals.
Since 2001, JSI has funded the Mabelle Arole Fellowship with the American Medical Student Association to support recent graduates studying community-based primary health care in Jamkhed, India.
