Joe Scully
Joe Scully is a fictional character from the Australian soap Neighbours, played by Shane Connor. He first appeared on 20 October 1999, when his family—the Scullys—moved to Ramsay Street to join the show. The Scullys were brought in to replace the departing Martin family and were the first new family on the street since 1996.
Joe is the family patriarch. He runs a building business and later forms his own company, Ozbuilt. He is married to Lyn Scully, and together they have three daughters—Felicity, Michelle and Stephanie—and a son, Jack. A baby named Oscar Scully is later born. Joe and Lyn also have many family ties, including grandchildren and step-grandchildren.
The Scully family brought energy and drama to Ramsay Street. Joe is pictured as a fast-moving, sometimes boisterous businessman who isn’t afraid to flirt or stir things up. He often clashes with neighbours but cares deeply for his family.
In 2003, actor Shane Connor’s contract with the show was terminated due to personal problems, and Joe’s on-screen story ended in early 2004 when he leaves Erinsborough to help care for his injured father in Bendigo. Connor later filed an unfair dismissal claim against the producers and won.
There were later hints that Joe had died off-screen, but this has not been shown on screen. One notable moment for the character was delivering a baby in a bushfire.
