Matti Tapani Pohjola (born 4 November 1950) is a Finnish economist who studies growth, productivity, technological change, and information and communications technology (ICT). He has been a professor at the Helsinki School of Economics since 1992 and is the editor of the Finnish Economic Journal. He also serves as deputy director of the World Institute for Development Economics Research (WIDER) at the United Nations University.

Pohjola was born in Huruksela, Kymi. He earned his Master of Science in Social Sciences from Tampere University in 1973, a Licentiate of Social Sciences in 1976, and a PhD from the University of Cambridge in 1981. His research areas include chaotic dynamics, dynamic game theory, labor economics, environmental economics, and economic growth.

He edited Information Technology, Productivity, and Economic Growth: International Evidence and Implications for Economic Development (Oxford University Press, 2001) and a special issue on the New Economy for Information Economics and Policy (to be published June 2002). His current work focuses on the effects of the New Economy on productivity and growth and on the factors that influence the adoption and diffusion of ICT.
