Jean Gale
Jean Gale, born Lenore Gilmartin in San Francisco on September 13, 1912, was an American vaudeville performer who also acted in a few 1930s films. She came from a performing family with twin sister Joan Gale and two other sisters, Jane and June Gale; the sisters sometimes performed as the Gale Quadruplets in vaudeville and in George White's Scandals of 1931 and 1936, though they were not actually quadruplets.
Jean’s elder sister June married pianist Oscar Levant in 1939 and stayed married until his death in 1972; they had three children. The Gale sisters began performing early, which helped Jean enter films. She had a small role in Bottoms Up (1934) with Spencer Tracy and was named a WAMPAS Baby Star in 1934, the last year the program existed.
Her film career was brief. She appeared in four films after being named a WAMPAS Baby Star: Kiss and Make-Up (1934), Young and Beautiful (1934), A Star Is Born (1937), and Girl from Avenue A (1940), though none of these roles was credited. She settled in Los Angeles, where she died on September 26, 1974, at the age of 62.
