County Route 547 (New Jersey)
County Route 547 is a roughly 30.36-mile county highway in New Jersey. It runs from Route 70 in Lakehurst, Ocean County, to Myrtle Avenue and Broadway in Long Branch, Monmouth County. Along the way it passes through forested areas, towns, and suburban communities, and it briefly intersects several major highways.
Route description
- Ocean County (Lakehurst to Jackson and toward Lakewood)
- The road starts at Route 70 in Lakehurst, heading northeast on Ridgeway Road through the Pine Barrens.
- It passes into Manchester Township and briefly becomes a four-lane divided highway near the Lakehurst naval station before narrowing again.
- The route continues north through Jackson Township, crossing railroad rights-of-way and meeting East Veterans Highway (CR 528) near commercial areas.
- It runs briefly with CR 528 on East Veterans Highway and later continues on its own route, passing through wooded and residential areas and crossing the Metedeconk River as it approaches Lakewood.
- In Lakewood, CR 547 runs with US 9 on Madison Avenue for a stretch, then turns onto 8th Street and continues through residential and commercial areas, crossing East County Line Road (CR 526) along the way.
- Monmouth County (Howell to Long Branch)
- The highway enters Howell Township as Lakewood–Farmingdale Road and passes through farmland, woods, and communities, crossing the Southern Secondary rail line.
- It meets and then joins with CR 524 (Lakewood–Farmingdale Road) for a while, passing Monmouth Mall and continuing toward Farmingdale.
- CR 547 then splits from CR 524 and heads through Howell into Wall Township, where it intersects Route 33 and Route 34 at the Collingwood Circle.
- It continues through Eatontown and West Long Branch, collecting a mix of rural and suburban roads, and meets Route 36 and Route 35.
- The road runs with Route 71 (Broad Street) into Long Branch, then its name changes to Eatontown Boulevard and later Broadway as it passes through Oceanport, West Long Branch, and Long Branch.
- The northern end is at Myrtle Avenue in Long Branch, with Broadway continuing toward the Atlantic Ocean.
CR 547 Spur
- A short, 0.45-mile long spur of CR 547 in Wall Township, Monmouth County.
- Wyckoff Road runs between Route 34 and Route 33, passing mainly retail and office development.
- Signs for the spur are limited, but Monmouth County road plans show it as part of CR 547.
History
- Before 2017, CR 547 ended at Route 71 and Broad Street (CR 537) in Eatontown.
- On February 23, 2017, Monmouth County extended CR 547 along Route 71 to Long Branch to connect with the extended CR 537 route, which was realigned through Fort Monmouth.
- Even after the extension, signage for CR 537 still appears in parts of the extended CR 547 segment, as of the latest available information.
