Jason Tobin
Jason Tobin, born To Jun Wai (杜俊緯) on July 12, 1975, is a Hong Kong‑British actor known for his work in film and television. He plays Young Jun in the HBO Max series Warrior and Mr. Lao in the Disney+ series A Thousand Blows.
He grew up in Hong Kong, attended King George V School in Kowloon, and went to boarding schools in the UK. His father is English and his mother is Chinese. After finishing high school, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting.
Tobin’s breakout film was Better Luck Tomorrow (2002) by Justin Lin, alongside Parry Shen, Sung Kang, Roger Fan and John Cho. It premiered at Sundance and is celebrated for challenging stereotypes about Asian Americans. The Los Angeles Times later named it one of the best Asian American films ever.
He has appeared in several productions, including the Fast & Furious franchise as Earl in Tokyo Drift and a return in F9. He starred in Chink (also known as #1 Serial Killer), earning Best Actor awards at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival in 2013, and won Best Actor – Dramatic at the same festival for Jasmine in 2015.
In 2018 Tobin reunited with Justin Lin for the Cinemax series Warrior, a martial arts drama inspired by Bruce Lee. The show ran for three seasons before being canceled in 2023. In 2021 he was cast as William Pan in the Netflix film Fistful of Vengeance, released in 2022.
Upcoming projects include The Ballad of a Small Player with Colin Farrell and The Undeclared War with Simon Pegg (both slated for 2025), while he is currently shooting Kung Fu Deadly in Dublin.
Tobin lives in Hong Kong, London, and Sydney with his wife Michelle Lau and their three children. He has cited Bruce Lee as a childhood influence.
