Hofjægermester (hunting master of the court) is an honorary title given by the Danish king to a small number of major landowners. It started in the Denmark-Norway era during absolute monarchy and today it is only an honorary title. As of 1 March 2019, 52 people in Denmark held the title: 42 men and 10 women. The title was also used during the Swedish-Norwegian Union, but it was discontinued in Sweden and Norway. In Norway it was spelled Hofjægermester until 1905; a modern spelling would be hoffjegermester. In Sweden the spelling was hovjägmästare.
