The IAAF U18 Championships in Athletics, known as the IAAF World Youth Championships in Athletics until 2015, was a global track and field event for athletes aged 17 and under. It was organized by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and held every two years from 1999 to 2017. After the 2016 Summer Olympics, the IAAF decided to end the world under-18 championship after the 2017 edition, aiming to improve under-18 competitions at the continental level instead. In 2015 the event was renamed the IAAF World U18 Championships, but only the 2017 competition used this title. It was the under-18 counterpart to the World U20 Championships, which are for athletes aged 19 or under in the year of competition. The event is now defunct, and independent athletes were not included in the official medal table.
