Japan Crate
Japan Crate is a Tokyo-based monthly subscription service that sends you a box of Japanese candy, snacks, and drinks every month so people can experience Japan from home. It was founded in September 2014 by Hank Rao and Anthony Sconzo and is headquartered in Tokyo. The service ships worldwide and offers several crate options, including Mini Crate, Original Crate, Premium Crate, Doki Doki Crate (licensed gifts and kawaii items), Umai Crate (noodles), Kira Kira Crate (beauty products), Inku Crate, and Gacha Crate. History and milestones
- 2015: Added Doki Doki Crate to share Japan’s kawaii culture with licensed merchandise, plushes, figures, and more.
- 2016: Launched Umai Crate (noodles).
- 2016: Launched Kira Kira Crate (beauty products).
- 2020: Partnered with Bandai Namco Entertainment America to bring Sword Art Online figurines to the US market.
- 2023: Bokksu acquired Japan Crate (amount undisclosed).
- 2023–2025: Company faced financial and operating challenges, including a legal matter involving CEO Hank Rao.
- March 2025: Japan Crate announced it would shut down at the end of the month, marking its final farewell.
