What a Life (EP)
What a Life is the debut EP by Exo-SC, the second sub-unit of Exo. It was released on July 22, 2019, by SM Entertainment and contains six tracks, including three singles: What a Life, Just Us 2, and Closer to You. Chanyeol and Sehun helped write and produce the songs, with Gaeko and Devine Channel as producers. The EP’s message centers on youth and balancing work with enjoying life.
What a Life is a hip hop track with a unique plucking sound. Just Us 2 is a hip hop song featuring piano, soft synthesizers and a catchy chorus, with Gaeko and lyrics by Boi B, Chanyeol, and Sehun; it was composed with Gray. Closer to You is a hip hop R&B track with an emotional melody and an addictive chorus, written by Chanyeol, Sehun, and Hangzoo of Rhythm Power.
Exo-SC performed What a Life and Closer to You for the first time at Exo Planet 5 – Exploration on July 19, and held a press showcase on July 22 in Seoul. A Sina Weibo livestream on July 25 drew 2.11 million concurrent viewers. They won their first music show trophy on Music Bank on August 2, 2019. Promotions continued with events in August, and QQ Music sales surpassed 1 million yuan, earning Platinum certification.
