James Benjamin Seymour
James Benjamin Seymour (28 November 1867 – 11 June 1950) was a British stamp collector and writer. He built a famous collection of Great Britain stamps and postal history that won many awards at national and international exhibitions. After his death, his collection was auctioned by Robson Lowe.
Seymour wrote important works on British stamps, including Stamps of Great Britain: The Line-engraved Issues, 1840 to 1853, and he completed a revised edition in 1950. He contributed the section on British line-engraved stamps to the Kohl Briefmarken-Handbuch, published in Germany in 1923. He and editor Dr Herbert Munk shared the Sieger Medal in 1931 for the best philatelic work in German that year.
He held leadership roles in philatelic groups: he was president of the International Philatelic Union and the Royal Philatelic Society London, and he was a corresponding member of l'Academie de Philatélie. He was also a member of the Fiscal Philatelic Society. Seymour signed the Roll of Distinguished Philatelists in 1931 and was named to the American Philatelic Society Hall of Fame in 1951. He was also a President of The Magic Circle.
