1992 Brighton Borough Council election

The election was held on 7 May 1992 to elect members of Brighton Borough Council in East Sussex, England. 16 of the council’s 48 seats were up for election, and 25 seats were needed for a majority.

Before the election, Labour controlled the council. After the election, Labour remained in control with 25 seats, and the Conservatives had 23.

In the 16 seats contested, Labour won 3 and the Conservatives won 13. Labour’s total on the council fell from 33 to 25 (a loss of 8 seats). The Conservatives rose from 15 to 23 (a gain of 8 seats).

Total votes were: Labour 16,138 (32.6%), Conservatives 27,241 (55.0%). Labour’s share fell about 7.3 percentage points, while the Conservative share rose about 15.0 points.
