Industry Dive was founded in 2012 by Sean Griffey, Eli Dickinson, and Ryan Willumson, after about $900,000 in private funding. It began by covering five industries—construction, education, marketing, utilities, and waste—and launched the Dive Awards in 2016. From 2015 to 2018, its revenues quadrupled, earning spots in the Deloitte Technology Fast 500 and the Inc. Top 5000. In 2019 Falfurrias Capital Partners acquired a majority stake. Its content marketing clients have included IBM, Siemens, and UPS. In 2020 DCA Live named Industry Dive a Red Hot Company, and the company acquired CFO. In 2021 it acquired PharmaVOICE. In 2022 Informa plc bought the majority stake for about $530 million.
Today Industry Dive covers many sectors—agriculture, banking, construction, education, fashion, healthcare, and manufacturing—through individual industry sites. The company has earned multiple awards from the American Society of Business Publication Editors, including 2020 coverage of Big Pharma and the race for the coronavirus vaccine. The Washington Post named Industry Dive a top place to work for four consecutive years, from 2016 to 2020.
