Industry (American band)
Industry was an American new wave band formed in 1978 in New York City, originally called Industrial Complex. The group, led by Mercury Caronia, Andrew Geyer, and Sean Kelly, blended experimental electronics, unusual time signatures, and synthesizers. They shortened their name to Industry and released music on Amstate Records and Capitol Records. In 1981, Geyer and Kelly left, and guitarist Brian Unger, lead singer Jon Carin, and Rudy Perrone joined, with Capitol signing the band. The best-known track, State of the Nation, appeared on their 1984 album Stranger to Stranger and charted in Sweden and Italy, helping them tour with acts like Billy Idol, Talk Talk, and INXS. The second single, Still of the Night, was less successful, and Industry split up in 1984. After the breakup, Carin became a successful session musician and joined Pink Floyd’s live band, also co-writing Learning to Fly. Unger and Perrone started their own projects, and Kelly worked as an arranger under the name Sean Robin.
