View from the House
View from the House is the eleventh studio album by American singer Kim Carnes, released on July 25, 1988, by MCA Records. It marks a return to her country roots, recorded in Nashville with co-producer Jimmy Bowen. The album blends country and adult contemporary styles and runs about 38 minutes.
Critics praised Carnes for her relaxed vocals and the album’s strong covers. It reached number 39 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart. Four singles were released: Speed of the Sound of Loneliness (Hot Country Songs #70), Crazy in Love (Hot Country Songs #68, Adult Contemporary #13), Just to Spend Tonight with You (UK release, did not chart), and Fantastic Fire of Love (1989).
Songs include a cover of John Prine’s If You Don’t Want My Love and Blood from the Bandit, co-written with Donna Weiss, a reflection on pollution and greed. Carnes has said she preferred recording with real instruments in Nashville to capture a live feeling.
