Hovea asperifolia is a flowering plant in the pea family that is native to south-eastern continental Australia. It is a shrub up to about 3 metres tall with hairy branchlets. The leaves are narrowly oblong to narrowly linear, about 10–100 mm long and 2.5–9 mm wide, with hairy stipules at the base and a rough upper surface. Flowers are mauve and pea‑like, usually appearing in pairs in leaf axils on short, hairy stalks. The standard petal is pale to deep mauve (7–10 mm long, 7–12 mm wide), with shorter wings and keel. It flowers from August to November, and the fruit is an 8–15 mm pod.

Hovea asperifolia was formally described in 2001 by Ian R. Thompson, based on specimens collected near Powelltown in 1983. It was previously included in H. pannosa. Thompson described two subspecies, now accepted: Hovea asperifolia subsp. asperifolia and Hovea asperifolia subsp. spinosissima.

This species grows in forest in hilly to mountainous country of south-eastern New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory, and eastern Victoria. Subspecies spinosissima is restricted to the Daylesford and Euroa areas in central Victoria.
