Horn OK Please (song)
Horn OK Please is the fifth single from the Dedh Ishqiya soundtrack, released in December 2013. The song is composed by Vishal Bhardwaj with lyrics by Gulzar, and features Yo Yo Honey Singh, Sukhwinder Singh, and Anushka Manchanda, with Honey Singh also performing a rap. Its story revolves around Babban searching for Khalujaan after their separation.
Gulzar wrote the lyrics for the track, including a rap verse sung by Honey Singh. The rap was tailored to Warsi’s character, and Singh performed it in a Bhopali accent. This project marked Gulzar’s first time writing rap for a song and Honey Singh’s first time rapping on a track not written by himself. A line from Gulzar’s rap references a line from the film Aandhi.
Development notes say Bhardwaj first phoned Honey Singh, who initially thought it was a prank. After agreeing to work on the song and being asked to rap Gulzar’s verses, Singh traveled to Mumbai to meet Bhardwaj and begin recording.
In composition and recording, Gulzar wrote the lyrics and Singh delivered the rap, with Bhardwaj handling production. The song blends Filmi, Pop, and Hip Hop elements and conveys a North Indian flavour, reflecting the film’s setting.
The music video features Arshad Warsi as Babban and Naseeruddin Shah as Khalujaan, with Madhuri Dixit appearing as Begum Para. The video follows Babban’s journey—hitchhiking, a car robbery, and various rides—while Khalujaan speaks from a palace. The narrative builds to Babban’s confrontation with Khalujaan.
Release details say a teaser appeared on YouTube in late December 2013, with the full video released the following day. The single was also made available on iTunes around the same period.
Critical reception noted the song as a lively, catchy track, praised for Honey Singh’s rap and Gulzar’s lyrics, and seen as a strong collaboration between the artists. It charted at No. 14 on The Times of India and Radio Mirchi Top 20.
