Hopea megacarpa is a small tree in the Dipterocarpaceae family, native to Borneo. The name megacarpa means “big fruit.” It grows just below the forest canopy, up to about 15 meters tall, with a trunk up to 20 cm in diameter. The bark is smooth. Leaves are leathery, lance-shaped to oval, and up to 12 cm long. The inflorescences are up to 3 cm long and may bear up to three pink flowers. The nuts are egg-shaped and up to 1.2 cm long. Hopea megacarpa is endemic to Borneo and lives in mixed dipterocarp forests. It is listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List, mainly due to logging. In Kalimantan, some populations are found in protected areas.
