Hong Kong China Rugby Union
Hong Kong China Rugby Union (HKCR), known in Chinese as 中國香港欖球總會, is the governing body for rugby union in Hong Kong. It was founded in 1952 and joined World Rugby in 1988, with Asia Rugby affiliation in 1987. The president is Peter Duncan. The men's coach is Lewis Evans and the women's coach is Jo Hull. HKCR runs local rugby, including the annual Hong Kong Sevens tournament and the HKRU Premierships.
The organization used to be called Hong Kong Rugby Football Union and later Hong Kong Rugby Union before changing to Hong Kong China Rugby Union in 2023.
In 2022, after a match between South Korea and Hong Kong, the song Glory to Hong Kong was played. The HKRU said this was a case of human error and not acceptable, noting that March of the Volunteers is the official anthem of Hong Kong. It was reported that organizers asked for copies of anthems, which the Hong Kong team did not submit. In November 2022, HKRU head Robbie McRobbie said new rules allowing athletes to correct organizers if the national anthem is played incorrectly were reasonable and practical.
