Alfred Benjamin Butts
Alfred Benjamin Butts (1890–1962) was an American political scientist and university administrator. He was born in Durham, North Carolina. He earned a Bachelor of Science from Mississippi A&M College in 1911 (now Mississippi State University) and began teaching there that year, continuing until 1935. He earned a Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1920 and a law degree from Yale Law School in 1930. Butts served as chancellor of the University of Mississippi from 1935 to 1946 and was president of the Southern Political Science Association in 1938. He died in 1962.
