Holstebro Speedway Klub
Holstebro Speedway Klub is a motorcycle speedway team from Holstebro, Denmark. They are champions of Denmark, having won the title in 1997. Their track is Skave Speedway, Hesselåvej 41B, 7500 Holstebro, in Mid Jutland. They currently race in the Danish Speedway League (division 1).
History:
The club’s track began in 1953 when Holstebro Motor Klub turned the grass Naur track into a 367-metre speedway track near Holstebro, just west of the town by the railway to Naur. Financial problems led HMK to suspend activities in 1967, the year the speedway leagues were introduced, so Holstebro did not have a team then.
In 1985, Holstebro Speedway Klub (HoSK) was formed and, with help from the municipality, built the track in Skave where they race today. The professional Danish Speedway League (the Superliga) started the following year. The club signed riders such as Henka Gustafsson and competed in the 1988 Danish speedway season, doing well but not winning medals. In 1991 they finished third (bronze), a feat they repeated in 1996.
Their greatest success came in 1997, led by Tommy Knudsen, when they won the league title and became Danish champions. Knudsen also won the Danish individual title that year. Other riders included Dalle Andersson, Hans Andersen, Bjarne Pedersen and Charlie Gjedde. In 1998 they won the silver medal; riders included Nicki Pedersen and Gert Handberg.
The club dropped out of the top league in 2001 but returned in 2007, led by Bjarne Pedersen. They finished second in 2011. After finishing sixth in 2018, they left the top league again and now race in the lower divisions.
