Eared hutia (Mesocapromys auritus) is a small, endangered rodent found only on Cayo Fragoso, a Caribbean island off the north coast of Cuba. It lives in coastal mangrove forests and swamps and is threatened by habitat loss. It belongs to the hutia group of Caribbean rodents, many of which are endangered or extinct. Scientific name: Mesocapromys auritus. IUCN status: Endangered.
