Histidine transaminase

Content sourced from Wikipedia, licensed under CC BY-SA 3.0.

Histidine transaminase is an enzyme that transfers an amino group from histidine to 2-oxoglutarate. The reaction produces imidazol-5-ylpyruvate and L-glutamate. It belongs to the transferase family, specifically transaminases that move nitrogen-containing groups. The systematic name is L-histidine:2-oxoglutarate aminotransferase, and it is also known as histidine aminotransferase or histidine-2-oxoglutarate aminotransferase. It participates in histidine metabolism.
