Eran Viezel
Eran Viezel, born June 18, 1972, is an Israeli biblical scholar, author and poet. He is a full professor at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, in the Department of Bible Studies, Archaeology and the Ancient Near East. He earned his PhD from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and grew up on Kibbutz Netiv HaLamed-Heh.
Viezel studies how biblical interpretation has developed over time—from rabbinic exegesis and medieval commentaries to modern biblical scholarship during the Haskalah and beyond. He also looks at how the biblical books were formed within Jewish tradition through the ages. In 2015, he received the ACUM Prize from the Society of Authors, Composers and Music Publishers in Israel. His partner is Ella Stern.
