Henry Bromley Derry
Henry Bromley Derry MVO DMus FRCO FLCM (1885 – 4 April 1954) was an English organist and music professor. He was born in Stratford-upon-Avon and christened on 9 September 1885, the son of Henry Derry and Elizabeth Edkins. He went to King Edward VI School in Stratford and studied with Sir Walter Parratt and Frederick Bridge, later attending the Royal College of Music from 1906 to 1910. Around 1903 he served for about a year in the Warwickshire Yeomanry. He earned the FRCO in 1907 and a Doctor of Music degree (DMus). He married Gertrude Powell on 27 April 1909, and their daughter, Aileen Gertrude Joyce Derry, was born on 11 May 1910. From 1915 to 1918 he was bandmaster of the King's Own Royal Regiment (Lancaster). He later became Chairman of the Corporation and Director of the London College of Music. In 1944 he was made a Member of the Royal Victorian Order (MVO) and changed his surname to Bromley-Derry.
