Twenty teams competed in the 1996 Empress's Cup in Japan. Nikko Securities Dream Ladies were the champions, defeating Yomiuri-Seiyu Beleza in the final. The other semifinalists were Suzuyo Shimizu FC Lovely Ladies and Prima Ham FC Kunoichi.
