Samarkand State University
Samarkand State University (SamSU, also known as SamDU) is a public university in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. It is located at University Boulevard 15, Samarkand 703004, and its website is www.samdu.uz.
History and name changes
- 1927: Founded as the Uzbek Pedagogical Institute.
- 1930: Renamed the Uzbek State Pedagogical Academy.
- 1933: Merged with the Uzbek State Medical Institute to form the Uzbek State University.
- 1941–2016: Named after the poet Ali-Shir Nava'i.
- 1961: Renamed Samarkand State University.
- 2000: The current university was established by government decree on November 10.

- The university has faculties and programs across natural sciences, humanities, languages, and social sciences.
