Hashtag United F.C.
Hashtag United Football Club is a semi-professional team from Essex, England. They play in the Isthmian League Premier Division at Parkside, Aveley, which has a capacity of about 3,500. The club was founded in March 2016 by Spencer Carmichael-Brown (Spencer FC), a football YouTuber. It started as a group of friends making five-, seven-, and eleven-a-side exhibition matches that were posted online and quickly built a big social-media following.
Key moments in the club’s history include winning the EE Wembley Cup in 2017 and having Chelsea captain César Azpilicueta invest as a co-owner in 2018. They joined the English football pyramid in 2018, starting in Division One of the Spartan South Midlands League, then moving to the Eastern Counties League and later to the Essex Senior League. After seasons interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, Hashtag United was promoted to the North Division of the Isthmian League based on points per game, and in 2022–23 they won the North Division to reach the Isthmian League Premier Division.
Hashtag United runs reserve, development, and youth teams, and in 2020 formed Hashtag United Women after a merger with AFC Basildon. The women’s team plays in the FA Women’s National League (third tier) and has won the Essex County Cup in 2022, 2023–24, and 2024–25, plus the FA Women’s National League Cup in 2024. They earned promotion to Tier 3 after the 2022–23 season. The club’s colours are yellow and blue, and over the years their kits have been supplied by Umbro, Adidas, and Hummel. The club also has a successful eSports section.
Over the years the team has shared grounds with Tilbury, Bowers & Pitsea, and later Aveley. Since 2024–25 both the men’s and women’s teams have been based at Parkside, with a planned long-term groundshare with Redbridge announced for 2026.
