Tantony
Tantony is a shortened form of Saint Anthony the Abbot, an important early monk known as one of the Desert Fathers. It is used for things connected to him: the Tantony Pouch, the Tantony Bell (a small church bell), and the Tantony Pig (the smallest pig in a litter). Saint Anthony became the patron saint of swineherds because a pig is said to have helped him keep time for his prayers, and he is often shown with a pig. In Spain and many former colonies, he is honored as the patron saint of domestic animals. On his feast day, January 17, animals may be blessed, similar to how St. Francis of Assisi is celebrated elsewhere. In Spain, large bonfires are lit on this day, and people celebrate with pork and sausages.
