Haemoproteus parabelopolskyi
Haemoproteus parabelopolskyi is a parasite that infects birds. It is a single-celled organism in the group Apicomplexa. In blackcaps, 17 distinct strains of this parasite have been found, and they all belong to one closely related group. Three additional, related strains are found in garden warblers, and another three in African hill babblers. This pattern suggests that the three bird species share a common ancestry.
