Gymnanthes is a genus of flowering plants in the spurge family, Euphorbiaceae. It was first described as a genus in 1788. The plants are mainly found in warm parts of the Western Hemisphere, from Florida and Mexico to Argentina, with some species in central Africa and southwestern Southeast Asia. They are commonly called oysterwood. The genus contains about 45 species and is pantropical. The type species is Gymnanthes lucida. Synonyms include Ateramnus, Duvigneaudia, Gussonia, Gymnanthus, and Sarothrostachys. Some species have been moved to other genera, such as Actinostemon, Ditrysinia, Microstachys, Sebastiania, and Stillingia.
