Guangua is a district (woreda) in the Amhara region of Ethiopia, part of the Agew Awi Zone. It covers about 2,305 square kilometers and had around 223,000 people in 2007. The administrative center is Chagni, and other towns include Kilaj and Menta Wuha. Guangua is bordered by the Benishangul-Gumuz region to the south and west, Dangila to the north, Faggeta Lekoma and Banja Shekudad to the northwest, and Ankasha Guagusa to the east. The Dura River forms part of its western border. Mount Gum, at 1,506 meters, is a notable high point. In 2009, MIDROC Gold reported exploration around Menta Wuha for gold deposits. Historically, two neighboring woredas, Dibate and Mandura, were once part of Guangua but were split off in the 1960s and later transferred to Benishangul-Gumuz when that region was created in 1992.
