Greece in the Eurovision Song Contest 1997
Greece at the Eurovision Song Contest 1997
Greece was represented by Marianna Zorba with the song Horepse (Χόρεψε). The song was written by Manolis Manousselis, and it was selected by Greece’s broadcaster, the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (ERT), through an internal process.
ERT opened submissions in December 1996 and a panel of eight judges reviewed 203 entries. They initially selected a song called An den agapisis de th’ agapithis by Dimosthenis Strigli and began looking for an artist to perform it, considering singers such as Despina Vandi and others. Ultimately, ERT replaced that song and chose Horepse, performed by Marianna Zorba.
At the contest, Zorba performed 17th, after Sweden and before Malta, and finished with 39 points, placing 12th out of 25. Greece’s jury awarded its 12 points to Cyprus.
