Gravetemple is an American drone metal band formed in 2006 by Attila Csihar, Stephen O'Malley, and Oren Ambarchi. The project began when Sunn O))) were invited to play in Israel during the 2006 Lebanon War, and some members refused to travel. In 2008 they reformed with Australian drummer Matt "Skitz" Sanders for a brief European tour. The group should not be confused with the Burial Chamber Trio, which has a similar lineup but replaces Stephen O'Malley with Greg Anderson. Gravetemple released The Holy Down in 2007 on Southern Lord Records. Their second album, Impassable Fears, was praised by The Quietus for turning metal into unusual, incongruous structures, more like Theologian's power electronics than the blasphemous black metal of Mayhem or the drone of Sunn O))).
