Dallas Drake is a Canadian former NHL winger who played for the Detroit Red Wings, Winnipeg Jets/Phoenix Coyotes, and St. Louis Blues. He was born February 4, 1969, in Trail, British Columbia, and grew up in Rossland. Drake played college hockey at Northern Michigan University, helping the team win the 1991 NCAA Championship in triple overtime.

Drafted by Detroit in 1989 (116th overall), Drake made the NHL roster in 1992-93 and had a solid rookie season with 44 points. He was later traded to the Winnipeg Jets (the franchise moved to Phoenix as the Coyotes), along with Tim Cheveldae, in exchange for Bob Essensa and Sergei Bautin. Drake became known as a tenacious checker and penalty-killer.

In 2000 he signed with the St. Louis Blues, where he played six seasons, reaching a career-high 20 goals in 2002-03 and serving as captain in 2005-06 and 2006-07. After a contract buyout in 2007, he returned to Detroit on a one-year deal and finally won the Stanley Cup in 2008. Captain Nicklas Lidström handed the Cup to Drake first, recognizing his long wait for hockey’s biggest prize. Drake retired on July 15, 2008.

Off the ice, Drake and his wife Amy live in Traverse City, Michigan with their four children. His daughter Delaney played for the Wisconsin Badgers and helped the US win gold at the 2017 IIHF World U18 Championship; his other daughter Darby swims for the University of Nebraska Omaha. Drake was inducted into Northern Michigan University’s Hall of Fame in 2002.
