Voorpost is a Flemish ethno-nationalist group founded in 1976 by Karel Dillen after splitting from the Volksunie. It supports the idea of a Greater Netherlands that would unite all Dutch-speaking areas of Europe and is active in Belgium, the Netherlands and South Africa. The group has held rallies on topics such as Islam, left-wing groups, drugs and socialism. Notable people connected to Voorpost include Bart Vanpachtenbeke (the current leader), Nick van Mieghem (action leader for Flanders as of 2013) and Florens van der Kooi (action leader for the Netherlands). Some members were formerly part of the Vlaamse Militanten Orde (VMO), which was banned in 1983 for violent attacks. The Dutch intelligence service AIVD classifies Voorpost as far-right but says it does not aim to undermine democracy or use anti-democratic means. In 1986 the Dutch union FNV and the Anne Frank Foundation listed Voorpost as racist and fascist, leading to membership bans; a 2012 Dutch court ruled that banning Voorpost members was illegal because political opinions cannot be used to bar membership.
