Golo Footwear
Golo Footwear is a fashion shoe company founded in 1915 by German immigrant Adolf Heilbrunn in Dunmore, Pennsylvania. It started by making slippers and was known for using unusual materials, like cork, stretch fabrics, Gore-Tex for rain boots, and clear lucite sandal wedges. Golo is best known for helping popularize the go-go boot in 1964, which Barbra Streisand wore and was photographed for Vogue by Richard Avedon in 1965. In 2006, the Metropolitan Museum of Art held 22 Golo designs, including an over-the-knee boot with multicolor patent-leather layers, stretch patent leather boots made for Jacques Tiffeau in 1967, and denim platform boots by Leila Larmon and Stephen Bruce. The brand was bought by Dennis Comeau and relaunched in 2013. Its headquarters remain in Dunmore, Pennsylvania, and it continues to make shoes.
