George Chann (1913–1995) was a Chinese American painter. He was born January 1, 1913, in Guangzhou, China, and grew up with his father in Stockton, California. He studied at Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou, then returned to the United States in 1932. He graduated from the Otis Art Institute in 1945 and soon began teaching there and showing his work. Early in his career he mainly painted portraits, with some still lifes and landscapes. In the 1950s his work became more abstract and started to include Chinese artifacts; for example, he rubbed some paintings with oracle bones. Chann died on May 26, 1995, and his art has drawn more attention since his death.
