Suzuki Indomobil Motor
PT Suzuki Indomobil Motor is a Jakarta-based automotive joint venture between Suzuki Motor Corporation and the Indomobil Group. It manufactures Suzuki cars for Indonesia and for export, while sales and marketing are handled by its sister company, PT Suzuki Indomobil Sales. The company’s roots in Indonesia go back to 1970 with an import business, and six years later a manufacturing facility was built, becoming the oldest part of the Indomobil Group. Its first product was the ST20 Carry, introduced in 1978 and widely used as an Angkot; it earned the nickname Turungtung due to the sound of its two-stroke engine.
In 2011, Suzuki invested $800 million to produce the Low Cost Green Car (LCGC) in Indonesia. A second plant in Cikarang opened in 2015 with a total investment of about $1 billion, producing the Ertiga MPV for both domestic and export markets and the K10B engine for Karimun Wagon R. In 2019, production reached 124,658 units.
Headquartered in Jakarta, the company is led by Minoru Amano (President-Director). Ownership is mainly Suzuki Motor Corporation (about 94.94%), with PT Indomobil Sukses Internasional Tbk (4.55%) and PT Serasi Tunggal Karya (0.51%) holding the remainder.
