Gene Rardin
Gene Rardin is a former Democratic member of the Kansas House of Representatives, who represented the 16th district from 2007 to 2011. He ran for re-election in 2010 but was defeated by Republican Amanda Grosserode.
Before serving in the legislature, Rardin worked as a teacher in the Shawnee Mission School District, a project engineer for Kansas City Power and Light, and a telecommunications manager. He also ran his own Career Consulting and Training Business for 14 years. He earned degrees in Education and Electrical Engineering from the University of Kansas and an MBA from the University of Missouri–Kansas City.
In 2006, Rardin was unopposed in the Democratic primary on August 1. He faced John Dennis Kriegshauser in the general election and won after a recount, by three votes (4,131 to 4,128). In 2008, higher turnout helped him defeat James Yonally, 5,522 to 5,431. In 2010 he lost to Amanda Grosserode, 4,266 to 3,530.
Rardin was born in Shawnee Mission, Kansas. He and his wife Juanita, whom he married in 1964, volunteered at the Missouri Repertory Theatre; she died in August 2009. They had two children, Michael (born 1972) and Jessica (born 1974), and three grandchildren: Alyse, Dakotah, and Allison Decker.
