Nikolai Dmitriyevich Yakovlev
Nikolai Dmitriyevich Yakovlev (1898–1972) was a Soviet Marshal of Artillery. From 1937 to 1941, he was the artillery chief of the Belorussian, North Caucasus, and Kiev Military Districts. From 1941 to 1948, he headed the Main Artillery Directorate (GAU) and was a member of the Military Council of the Red Army’s artillery. In this role he helped supply the army with weapons and ammunition and led the development and introduction of new artillery weapons. He was imprisoned in 1952–1953 and retired in 1960.
