Frontier Corps Balochistan (North)
Frontier Corps Balochistan (North) سرحد واہنی بلوچستان (شمالی) Abbreviation: FCB(N)
The Frontier Corps Balochistan (North) is a federal paramilitary force of Pakistan. It operates in the northern part of Balochistan, guarding the border with Afghanistan and helping maintain law and order inside the province.
It is one of four Frontier Corps units in Pakistan:
- FC Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (North)
- FC Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (South)
- FC Balochistan (South)
The Frontier Corps are led by an Inspector General, who is a Pakistan Army officer, but the force is under the Interior Ministry. The Balochistan (North) unit was created in 2017 when FC Balochistan was split into North and South. It has about 37,000 personnel and is headquartered in Quetta.
Main roles include border patrol, counter-insurgency, riot control, security, and protecting national borders. The Corps is funded and overseen by the Ministry of Interior and works with support from the Pakistan Army. Its operations are guided by the Frontier Corps Ordinance, 1959.
The Frontier Corps should not be confused with the Frontier Constabulary, which is a police-led force. The FCs are army-led paramilitary units.
Throughout its history, the FC has also engaged in public development projects, such as building schools and hospitals, as part of its community presence in Balochistan. Senior command posts are held by officers seconded from the Pakistan Army for fixed terms, and the force is organized into infantry regiments and wings.
