Franklin Garrett
Franklin Miller Garrett (September 25, 1906 – March 5, 2000) was an American historian who focused on the history of Atlanta, Georgia. He wrote Atlanta and Environs: A Chronicle of its People and Events, a comprehensive book about the city. Born in Milwaukee, he moved to Atlanta in 1914 and graduated from Technological High School there. He joined the Atlanta Historical Society in 1927, which later became the Atlanta History Center, and he later served as its historian. Garrett worked as the Coca-Cola Company’s historian for 28 years, and after retiring, devoted himself full time to the Atlanta History Center. His book built on Wallace Putnam Reed’s History of Atlanta, Georgia (1889). He was married to Frances Steele Garrett, who died in 2005.
