Feather (American musician)
Feather is the stage name of Kyle Featherstone, an American electronic dance music producer and musician born on June 27, 1991, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He grew up in Hudson, Wisconsin, where he fell in love with music, started playing piano in the third grade, and joined his high school choir. After high school, he studied at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and played in bands inspired by Coldplay, Jack’s Mannequin, and Augustana. In 2016, he moved back to Minneapolis to focus on producing electronic music.
Feather began releasing remixes and his own tracks. In June 2018, he released a remix of Lauv’s “I Like Me Better” on YouTube via Proximity; Ben Allen of ElectroJams described it as a blend of synths and cinematic drops. He followed with a remix of Timeflies’ “Little Bit” on August 10, 2018, and a Loote remix “Wish I Never Met You” a week later through Island Records. In 2019, he remixed Trove’s “GTFO” for disco:wax. His debut original single, “Safe House,” arrived on October 28, 2020, and his next single “Smoke” with Lostboycrow released on December 9, 2020. His debut EP, “Becoming,” came out on January 13, 2020 and received positive feedback. He also wrote the song “Problems,” which Don Diablo, John K, and JLV released on March 5, 2020. Feather uses Bitwig Studio, Logic Pro, and Ableton to produce his music.
