Frank Hovington
Franklin Hovington, known as Guitar Frank (January 9, 1919 – June 21, 1982), was an American blues musician who played guitar and banjo and sang in the Piedmont blues style. He lived near Frederica, Delaware, and was born in Reading, Pennsylvania. His style followed Blind Boy Fuller, with a strong thumb beat and varied rhythms. On a tip from folklorist Peter B. Lowry, he was recorded by Dick Spottswood and Bruce Bastin. An album appeared on Flyright Records in the UK and Rounder Records in the US, with later German releases and a US issue by Evidence Records. Hovington did not like to travel and rarely played outside Delaware, worried he would lose welfare payments. He died in Felton, Delaware, in 1982 at age 63.
