Agder District Court
Agder District Court, known in Norwegian as Agder tingrett, is a district court in Agder county, Norway. It operates from three courthouses in Farsund, Kristiansand, and Arendal. It belongs to the Agder Court of Appeal and serves most of Agder county, covering 24 municipalities. The court is led by a chief judge and several other judges, and it is a court of first instance. It handles criminal cases, civil lawsuits, and bankruptcy. It also takes care of administrative tasks such as death registration, issuing certain certificates, notary duties, and civil wedding ceremonies. Cases are heard by professional judges together with lay judges. The court was established on 26 April 2021 when the Aust-Agder District Court, Kristiansand District Court, and Lister District Court merged. The new court continues to use the courthouses from the former courts.
