Football America
Football America is a 1996 American sports history book by Phil Barber and Ray Didinger. It was later made into a film series released by the NFL in 1996. A follow-up TV series with the same name aired on NFL Network from 2003 to 2005, hosted by Charley Steiner. The books and shows tell stories about various players and teams. Turner Network Television, which at the time held partial NFL rights, aired the original film in 1992. The 2003–05 series aired on Sunday and Monday nights, opposite ESPN and ABC’s prime-time games. NFL Network canceled Football America in 2006 during a lineup revamp in favor of more live programming and big projects like America’s Game: The Super Bowl Champions. The show still appeared occasionally, including a Thanksgiving Day 2006 airing. In 2014, Football America returned as a one-hour special during Fox’s Super Bowl XLVIII coverage, focusing on the NFL’s Together We Make Football campaign. A later edition aired during NBC’s Super Bowl XLIX coverage the next year.
