Chris Heston
Christopher Lee Heston (born April 10, 1988) is a former American professional baseball pitcher who played in Major League Baseball for the San Francisco Giants, Seattle Mariners, and Minnesota Twins from 2014 to 2017. He is best known for throwing a no-hitter on June 9, 2015, against the New York Mets.
Early life and education
Heston grew up in Palm Bay, Florida, and went to Bayside High School. He played college baseball at Seminole Community College and East Carolina University. He was drafted three times before signing: by the Minnesota Twins in 2007 (47th round) and the Washington Nationals in 2008 (29th round) but did not sign, then by the San Francisco Giants in 2009 (12th round), which he did.
Professional career
Heston began in the minor leagues, gradually improving. He joined the Giants’ 40-man roster in 2012 and made his MLB debut on September 13, 2014, with the Giants. The Giants won the World Series that year, but Heston did not play in the postseason.
In 2015, Heston became a regular starter for San Francisco. He earned his first major league win on April 8, 2015. On May 12, he pitched a complete game against the Houston Astros. The highlight of his season came on June 9, 2015, when he no-hit the New York Mets at Citi Field, 5–0. He finished 2015 with a 12–11 record, a 3.95 ERA, and 141 strikeouts.
The following year was tougher. He started 2016 in the bullpen and spent time in the minors or on the disabled list. On December 7, 2016, he was traded to the Seattle Mariners. In 2017, he was claimed off waivers by the Los Angeles Dodgers and then by the Minnesota Twins. He spent part of the season in Triple-A and became a free agent after the season.
In 2018, Heston signed a minor-league contract to return to the Giants but was released in July. He later became a real estate agent in Melbourne, Florida.
