Floyd M. Baker
Floyd M. Baker (December 1, 1891 – April 2, 1986) was a Canadian politician in Alberta. He served in the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1935 to 1967 as a member of the Social Credit party for the Clover Bar district.
Born in Stevensville, Ontario, he moved to Alberta and won the Clover Bar seat in the 1935 provincial election, helping Social Credit take the district.
Baker helped manage Clarence Tade’s by-election campaign in Athabasca in 1938, which Tade won.
In the 1940 election, he faced a tough three-way race and narrowly defeated CCF candidate David Roberts to hold his seat on the second count.
In 1944, he again faced Roberts in a two-way race and won with a larger share of the vote.
The 1948 election saw the opposition vote collapse, and Baker won easily against two other candidates.
In 1952 he won a solid majority, though his share of the vote declined somewhat.
The 1955 election was a four-way contest; Baker was re-elected on the third count, defeating Liberal Wilfred McLean.
In 1959 and 1963 he won easily against multiple opponents, and he retired from politics when the legislature dissolved in 1967.
Baker died in Edmonton in 1986 at the age of 94.
