Barasat Junction railway station
Barasat Junction is a busy Kolkata Suburban Railway station in Barasat, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, India. It sits about 12 metres above the ground and has six platforms and six tracks. Most commuters travel to Kolkata and nearby towns, especially during morning and evening rush hours.

- Separate restrooms for men and women
- Ticket counters for long-distance and regular tickets; the main counter is at Platform 1
- Two smart card booths for quick, card-based purchases
- A car shade that covers two trains for maintenance
- Parking is not available
History and services
- Opened in 1906 and electrified in 1972
- It lies on the Sealdah–Bangaon line and the Dum Dum–Bangaon branch
Redevelopment
- In 2024, the Ministry allocated ₹28.83 crore for redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme
Barasat Basirhat Railway (BBR)
- A narrow-gauge line opened in 1914 that connected Barasat and Basirhat
- Closed in 1955, then revived and converted to broad gauge for local trains
Future plans
- There were plans to extend the Kolkata Metro Yellow Line from Noapara to Barasat, including an underground section
- The project faced delays due to land issues, but in 2021 the government approved underground construction for the Noapara–Barasat stretch, with the Yellow Line planned in three phases
